Overview
Redesigned the Coinsource Bitcoin ATM (BTM) interface to enhance user experience, align with updated brand guidelines, and introduce new features like promo codes and expanded cryptocurrency options.
Empathize & Define
Audited the existing Coinsource BTM interface and performed a heuristic evaluation to identify issues like text hierarchy & alignment inconsistencies, jargon-filled copy, and redundant screens.
Conducted hands-on testing using competitor BTMs and other large touchscreen kiosks to understand best practices for text size, buttons, and navigation as well as noting how competitors handled the crypto purchase flow.
Gathered insights from the customer support team to understand common pain points in our current experience, specifically difficulties in scanning wallet QR codes.
Ideate & Lo-Fi Design
Created flow diagrams to map the current flow, competitor flows, and iterated on new flows incorporating desired features.
Developed lo-fi wireframes to solve the identified issues and improve the user experience.
Designed an onscreen tutorial to improve wallet QR code scanning success rate.
Hi-Fi Design
Created a library of fonts, colors, icons, and components in line with the updated brand guidelines.
Produced high-fidelity mockups that balanced the new brand identity with a minimalist design.
Used Figma to create working prototypes and flow diagrams for reference by the development team.
Conducted a final walkthrough with the product manager and development team, reviewing the design library, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes.
Planned future usability testing once systems were in place to contact existing BTM users.
Conclusion
By following the design thinking process, including empathizing with users, defining the problem, ideating solutions, prototyping designs, and planning for future testing, the Coinsource Bitcoin ATM interface was successfully redesigned to enhance user experience and align with the updated brand guidelines.
